School is in and that means the beginning of High School Football. Luis and Q'Orianka have started a tradition of attending the game every Friday. Here is a fun picture of the going to Friday's game. Q'Orianka is wearing one of the players jersey. She was a hugh success. Everyone wanted to take her pictures. She had her picture taken with the player who's jersey this belonged to. I should be getting that picture this week.

New Discovery

I love it when children take an interest in something new. Today, Q'Orianka found a "new" book to look at. Its called 'Active Labor' I was watching her flip through the pages, to see what she would do. The next thing I know, she's showing me a picture, with a concerned look on her face. "Mom", she said, why is she sitting on her baby". A woman in active labor in the squating position, with a baby half out. I told her she wasn't sitting on the baby, she was having a baby. She said no mom, she sitting on the baby. So ask her where the baby was, she said her bum. I told her that's how the baby comes out. She's been fascinated with the book all day. When Luis woke she showed him the picture and told him how the baby comes out. We then explained that the baby doesn't come out of your bum, and where it comes out of. She took this new information really good. Which made me very happy. I was wondering when she would get around to asking how the baby comes out. The pictures were in black and white and probably from the 70's or 80's and not really very clear, but it gave her an understanding about how our baby will be come out of my tummy. I pulled out another book for her tomorrow, 'Spiritual Midwifery' which has more pictures of woman having babies. She liked to see the pictures when the new mom was holding the baby and smiling. One picture, had the mom, delivering a baby, with her mouth open like she was saying Oh, Oh, Oh,....Q'Orianka asked why she made that face. So I asked her what she says when Luis has a surprise for her. Her eyes lit up and she said OH,OH, Oh. I said that is that's what she's saying, having the baby is like having a special surprise. She looked at the picture and said ok.

Now I need to follow her example and decide how much information to give her. If she shows interest tomorrow will talk about it again. Then maybe, maybe, I'll look for some non-graphic, non-hysterical women having babies on youtube to show her. I'll play that one by ear, I don't want to bombard her with more information than she is ready for.

By the time, she had to go to bed, she had Suri looking at the book with her. So I had them sing a couple of songs to our new baby, then say goodnight and give him a kiss. It was really cute!! I might have war over the new baby, both girls will want to always be holding him. Q'Orianka still tries to hold Suri. And Suri usually fights back, because she doesn't want her too.

Kitchen Decorating

Now that the reality of getting a house is here. I found the perfect design for my kitchen. Luis picked the color. I wasn't to sure about, since I had another idea in mind. Then as I was looking through the design binder I created, that has pictures of design ideas for different areas of the house. I found these pictures. I'm really excited, I can't wait until we move in and I can start working on making it ours.

Father's Blessing

The cutest thing happened tonight. Luis gave the girls and I a blessing, (the girls haven't been sleeping well the last couple of days.) After the blessing, we explained what a blessing was and who it comes from, Q'Orianka's eyes were so big as we explaining. So almost before we'd finished talking, she was wanting to give papa a blessing, so she stood behind him on the couch, put her hands and his head, she asked Luis what she should say, so he gave her his name then she proceeded to give blessing/prayer, it was so cute, she's talking about a couple of things that were mention in the blessing, plus a couple of other things she says at her bedtime prayers. We could hardly keep a straight face. Then Suri, the little copy cat, stood up put her hands on Luis' shoulds and said amen.

Health Care Options

I want to share with everyone a wonderful way to share everyones health care burdens that I discovered today. A friends of mine's midwife was telling us about this program, It's called

Samaritan Ministries International.

-This is how it works!
Samaritan Ministries is a health care sharing ministry, not health insurance, so members’ needs are handled differently than insurance. Each month every Samaritan household is assigned to share in the medical need of another member.

Here's how the process works:

-Medical Need Begins
A Samaritan Ministries member has a need and calls the Samaritan Ministries office.
Packet is sent and prayer begins A Samaritan Ministries staff member sends a Need Processing packet to the member, who is added to the prayer list so fellow members can begin praying.

-The need is presented
He completes the form in the packet and returns it, with his medical bills, to the office.

-The need is processed
The Samaritan Ministries staff verifies the need information and prepares it for publication in the monthly newsletter.

-The need is published
The need is assigned to specific members, who are informed through the monthly newsletter.

-Members respond
The members send their shares along with notes of encouragement to the need assigned to them. They also pray for the member with the need.

-The burden is lifted
The member receives letters with financial gifts, notes of encouragement, and confirmation of prayers.

-God is glorified
The member is encouraged and praises God for His provision.

She hate water, seriously, tub time is a nightmare and she won't play in the little pool we have for her. She prefers to put dirt in the water instead.

I can't believe it's been so long since I gave an update about our family. A lot has happened since the last time wrote. Luis and I are expecting another baby in November. I'm pretty sure it's a boy, since was so sick. I am not usually sick, I've just started to come back after about a month and half. Our poor kids, have been so neglected. Since for an entire month, I could barely get off the couch. We are finally getting back to normal or at least a little more normal of not 100% normal.

Luis contract was not renewed at the local high school, he is working at. The school district had serious budget cuts and anyone with less then 6 years of teaching, were giving a warning, that they might be let go. And he was. Which was bummer, since we were in the middle trying to buy a house. We've put that off and are looking to move, hopefully out the Fredericksburg Area. Where we will go or what he will be doing is still in the air, but we know we will be moving.

The kids are growing like weeds. Q'Orianka is 3 1/2 and is talking up storm, she has become such a little mommy to Suri. Suri doesn't usually appreciate it, but that's normal and they play so well together. Suri is 18 months and is so independent. She also talking like crazy. Her favorite word is apple. Since she loves to eat them and wants to eat them all day long.

We are just about to become offically new homeowners. We've made an offer on a beautiful house. We finished our counter offer yesterday evening, so we are expecting the owners to accept the offer today. HipHip Hurray!!! Even with the owners accepting the offer, it could be up to 4 to 6 months before we can sign the papers on the house. The house is a short sale, so the process can be long. We will have to wait for final approval from the sellers banks, I say banks because 2 banks are involved in this process, which could extent the amount of time we wait. Lucky for us Bank of America is not involved, if they would have been we would not have even made an offer. They are a guaranteed 6 month wait. We have a feeling that this house is meant to be ours. Here are some pictures of the inside and outside of the house. It has 4 bedrooms 2 full baths and 1 half bath. It's about 2000 square feet with a large fenced yard. My garden plot is already for me.

Suri Playing

This week Q'Orianka is visting Ivis (Luis' sister). I took the adorable picture of Suri playing by herself. What the picture doesn't show is she was dancing in front of the mirror and talking and screaming loudly as she was playing. It was so cute. She has be fascinated by seeing herself in the mirror. It was so cute to see her playing with Q'Orianka's doll since, Q'ori doesn't usually let her play with them.

Q'Orianka and the Scissors

Here are a couple of pictures of Q'Orianka after she took the scissors to her hair. Lucky for us, she only cut about 2 or 3 inches off the bottom, it could have be much worse. I am sad that I had to cut her beautiful curls off. I couldn't let her have one side of her head 3 inches shorter than the other. (I tried, but it just didn't look right. )

Q'Orianka's '3rd Birthday

Q'Orianka is officially 3 years old. We had family party, on her birthday. And then on November 1st we celebrated it again with Luis' family. We are all pretty tired from our Halloween Party the night before. Luis and I are wearing borrowed clothes, since we forgot ours. I was so focused on sewing that I forgot to put our stuff together. Here are the pictures from her birthday. The little girl is Alexia, Ivis babysits her.

Halloween

We'll last weekend we went to a Halloween Party. There was a prize for the best costume. And of course we wanted to win. Well we did. We dressed as "Cholitos", which means we dressed how the mountain people dress when they are going a party. Luis' mom brought her an outfit from Peru, the last time she came back. And she looks so dang cute. I didn't have an outfit for Suri, so we dressed her in knitted sweater and pants out fit that we got from Peru as well. I got a black wig for my head and made the skirt I'm wearing. I also sewed some rick-rack to the bottom of Luis' slacks. Anyways, when we got to the party, Q'Orianka ended going in first. We could here everyone ooooohing and ahhhing over her. Next I went in, I was carrying Suri on my back in the traditional manner. But what won us the prize, I came in carrying the Peruvian flag. Everyone loved it, it was a slap in the face they said. We all got a great laugh about it. We had people taking our picture all night. The following pictures are from that night. Oh, if your wondering why I looking like I'm wearing a lot of blush. I'm trying to look sunburnt.

New Home

We are official settled in our new place. We love the area and our Ward. Just yesterday, the girls and I were able to walk to Kohl's, JoAnns Craft, Ross and Marshall's. It's wonderful. It only takes us about 30 mins or so to get to the Shopping Center.

I haven't taken to many pictures since we moved, but here are a couple that show had big the girls have gotten.

Here is a picture of Suri when she was just learning to stand up by herself. Now is walking all around the house. Not quite by her self but with the help of the furniture and the walls. A fun picture of the girls playing. Suri loves playing with Q'Ori.

Spotsylvania

We'll we have official moved and are settled into our new place. We love it here!! There is so much to do that is close by. Which is a nice change from where we were at. I can walk to a large shopping center, and get all of our shopping done or walk to the park. The girls love that.

New Job

It is offical we are moving!!!! Luis just recieved an offer to teach Spanish in Spotsylvania County (Fredericksburg), which is about an 1 hour outside of Richmond. Yeah!!!!!

Winter Wonderland

We are in the midst of having our first real snowy winter day. The day started out rainy. When we woke up from a nap around 2:30pm we had about 1/4 in of snow outside. And it just kept on coming. This morning we woke up to 7" of snow. Needless to say, school was cancelled, to Luis' delight. According to the news just about everything is shut down.

I just came in from playing outside with Q'Ori, the snow is powder the snow has melted where ever the sun has touched it. I forgot how much I loved the snow. I don't know if I'd want to have days and days of snow just yet. But it has been a nice change to have a winter wonderland. It made me think, what I would do with two small kids and needing to got to the store. Yuck!! But I can only seem to picture us leaving our old apartment. That going down those steps was dangerous with one child, I can't image doing it with two.

Valentines Day

Our family had a wonderful Valentine's Day. It started off to be a very relaxing Saturday. Later in the day we went to the Booker T. Washington Monument, which is about 30 minutes North of here.

If your not familiar with Booker T. Washington is, he was a very famous educator of African Americans. He was born into slavery, (the monument we visited is the plantation he was born on). After the Civil War, he eventually went to school and became a principal of Tuskegee Institute in Alabama (which I believe is still around today).

The Plantation was beautiful, they had some animals there, which was a little difficult for Q'Orianka. The horse scared her to death, she almost started crying. Then we saw some sheep, she didn't like them at first, but then once she got used to them, she didn't want to leave. She loved the chickens, roosters, geese and turkey's as well.

Snowy Winter Mornings

Every morning when I wake up, one of the first things I do is look out our bedroom window. Usually the days look the same, the only difference is the cloud cover. This morning I woke up and found snow. Not a lot of snow but enough. I realized I love to watch the snow fall. And the world around me becomes a winter wonderland. At this moment I do miss Utah and the snowy winters.

I realized today, its been 5 weeks since we posted anything to the blog. I have not meant to be just a slacker, but I have been busy. It's been a bit more challenging than I realized to get used to taking care of 2 little ones. But I do love it.

Last Monday I had my 6 week visit from Wanda and Crystal (the midwife and her assistant). Suri and I are doing great, and Suri weighted in at a whopping 11 1/2 pounds. Holy Cow!!! She as really grown. Then on Tuesday, I took the girls to Roanoke to Wanda's Mother's Group. It's a wonderful way to get to know other women who have had homebirths. All the women there have or will deliver with Wanda and Crystal. We get to share our birth story or stories with each other and discuss other subjects. This time we discussion circumsion, it was quite interesting. I had no idea, circumsion was a billion dollar industry. Hospitals sell the foreskin, its used for grafts and they use it to regenerate new skin cells. The foreskin will eventually grow to the size of a 3x5 card. It is something for us to eventually think about, when we finally have a boy, I don't want to have to PAY for a circumsion and then have it sold for a profit. I won't get into to much since I haven't done much research on the subject, ok, I haven't done any, this is what I learned on Tuesday.

Luis and I are also looking into moving. The area is nice, but since the fall, Luis and Q'Orianka have a horrible wet cough w/ flem, that doesn't seem to go away. Luis says it feels like his mission, when he had real problems with his asthma. He's worried Q'Orianka will develop asthma. For Christmas we went up north to visit his family, Q'Orianka's cough pretty much went a way, Luis' was much better. It was only on the really humid days that it bothered them. I'm thinking we need a dryer climate. Next weekend we're planning to visit some of Luis' friends in West Virginia, and see if we like the area. They live on the border of Virginia. So Luis could work in Virginia, but we could live in W. Virginia. Which would have its benefits, since it would be cheaper to live there, then in Virginia.

Q'Orianka is crazy about her sister. She loves to hug and kiss her. When I say hug and kiss I mean maul. Here they are in a moment of gentleness.

Q'Orianka loves to cuddle, I think this picture is priceless. Q'Orianka is always trying to feed her baby or the remote control and even Suri her teta (breast). I have to submit this one to Mothering Magazine. How could they not print it. It's adorable.

Registering Suri

Well, Luis and I went today to register Suri at the local Health Department, so we could get a birth certificate and a SSN card. They have never had anyone come in to register a homebirth before, so needless to say. They weren't the friendliest of people. I had tried on more than one occasasion to get the paperwork from them before hand, but they wouldn't give it to me. I won't go into details, but they did remember me from my previous visits.

They tried to give us the run around, but I just walked all over the lady and told her we were here to register a homebirth and Luis caught the baby. Registering her wasn't as painful as I thought it would be, based on my previous experience with this particular health department. According to our midwife, other health departments are much better to dealing with this issue since they have dealt with homebirths, (we have several, Amish and Mennonite communities here.) The lady at the health department implied we'd have a problem with the paperwork, but I don't think so. They just haven't moved into the 21st century.

As a side note.. the Health Department was as old if not older then Glenn Edwards in Lincoln. Sad, huh!!

Also, we changed the baby's name to Suri, it seemed to fit her better. I don't remember what it means, I'll have to ask Luis.

Our Homebirth

The newest member of the Palomino Family has FINALLY arrived. Zisary (pronounced 'Sesary') Lucero Sloan Palomino. YAHOOO!!!!

On 11/20 @ 11:06am. She weighed 7 lbs 14 oz and is 19 1/2 inches. It was a wonderful experience having our baby a home. Luis and I are so greatful to our wonderful midwife Wanda and her assistant Crystal. It was such a blessing to be able to meet them and share this wonderful experience with them. We are also so thankful for Aprill's mom who was able to come and share this moment with us. Q'Orianka has be loving having Grandma here, and they have really bonded which is just what we had hoped for, so she would be happy and content during the birth.

Q'Orianka loves her baby sister and wants to smother her and her mom with hugs and kisses. She hasn't quite figured out that there is not a baby in her mom's belly anymore, but having a baby in the house distracts her from kissing and hugging Aprill's belly too much. :-)

Well its official, our little sunshine is 2 years old. Its hard to believe. We had the missionaries over last night and decided to make it a little impromptu party. We had another family over that have twin daughters that are 9 months old and a son who is 5 years old. We had a great time. Of course Q'Orianka loved it since instead of one baby their are two. We gave her a little flan for the first time. Boy she was wired, then she just crashed. It was really funny. Good thing we don't feed her like that very often.

We went up to visit Luis's family this weekend to celebrate his mom and sister's birthday. While we were their his nieces decided to throw a birthday party for Q'Orianka. She won't be two until October 27th. She had not idea what was going on, but she sure liked her presents and the cake, it was the first time I've given her cake.

Back On-Line

We've finally arrive to the 21st Century. Well, at least for know. Our computer crashed not long after we moved here and a friend just gave us another one. I've been dying without it. Here is a picture of Q'Orianka not long after we got here playing outside of Luis' sister's house.

New Beginings

Well, we are finally in touch with the real world again. We moved a couple of weeks ago to Collinsville, Va. It is so beautiful here, the trees almost make you feel that you are living in the country. So far we love it. We arrived about 3 weeks ago. It took us about 5 days to find a place and only because 2 of those days fell on a Saturday and Sunday. And this place shuts down tight on the weekends. Once we were moved in we left for No. Virginia to visit Luis' family for about 5 days. It was a wonderful visit. Q'Orianka had a blast, and his family had so much fun playing with her. All the little things we've gotten used her doing, they were in awe of. It was really cute.

Once we returned we had some trouble getting our water turned on. They are kind of weird about the water. Everyone, including rentals must pay for water/garbage and sewer. And they require you to go in person, pay a cash deposit, and bring your SSN card with you. Needless to say we were without water for about 4 days. Yuck!!! Good thing we do not know anyone here. Because we stunk!!! Once the water was turned on it was easier, it was another day before someone could come and fix the hot water heater. But cold water is better than no water, that's for sure.

Q'Orianka is doing good. She really misses her friends in Provo, especially, Caleb, Lola (the dog across the street) and Marren. Except for nursery there are not many little kids for her to play with. Luckily the weather has cooled enough for us to take morning and evening walks. I'd love to find a park for her but as of yet, I haven't seen one.

Luis started his orientation this week. He really likes the faculty, which is wonderful, since he has heard on numerous occasions that the middle school, he will be teaching at is a tough one. Which makes sense, since this is very poor area. The students start school on Thursday.

We are members of a wonderful branch. Everyone has be so wonderful and friendly to us. On Sunday, they gave us our first calling, Luis will be teaching the 14-18 year olds. and I will be teaching R.S.

Welcome to the Palomino Family Blog!!

Since our family will be moving soon. I thought this would be a great opportunity for us to start a blog, to share our daily life with our friends and family.

If you haven't heard we are moving to Martinsville, VA on July 21, 2008.
Luis is getting ready to start his first teaching job their. He will be teaching Spanish, in the local Middle School. We are all excited about the move. Martinsville is about 4 hours from D.C. and 2 hours from the N.Carolina border.

During the day, while Luis is working, Aprill is going through cabinets and cupboards, making piles of stuff to sell at their weekly yard sale. We've decided to only take what will fit in our Blazer and 4x8 hitch. So needless to say, everything is going. We still have a couple of weeks left before we leave and we are already sleeping on the floor. FUN!!!
Aprill is trying to make sure she doesn't tire herself out, since she is expecting another baby in November (It's a Girl!!)

Q'Orianka is having good ol' time, going through the piles of stuff looking for things to play with. At our weekly yard sales, she loves playing with the local kids who come over, not to mention all the toys she hasn't seen in quite some time. She has be come quite a talker, most of the time we don't know what she is saying, nevertheless we enjoy listening to her tell all about what ever it is she is talking about.
